Lahore: The Lahore University of
Management Sciences (LUMS) Emergency Management Services (EMS)
will train students from eight universities across the city in
civil defence and basic paramedical techniques.
The training, which will begin in
January, would cover a wide spectrum of emergency care including
oxygen therapy, bleeding control, automated defibrillation and
assistance with basic medications.
LUMS EMS head Babar Asad said
that their team would meet the officials of Rescue 1122 today to
discuss the framework of their training for students.
The establishment of an EMS club
in LUMS has generated much interest in universities across the
city as huge numbers of students thronged the LUMS campus to be
a part of the club.
According to an official of the
EMS, the eight universities whose students would get training
under the EMS are University College of Lahore (UCL), Forman
Christian College University (FCCU), Kinnaird College (KC), Home
Economics College, University of South Asia (USA), Punjab
University (PU) and University of Management and Technology (UMT).
They would be joining the camp next month.
Babar said they were aiming
towards expanding EMS not only in Lahore but to other provinces
too. He said the universities who have contacted them would send
20 students each and would also help them expand their network
to other provinces.
He said they were planning to set
up an official collaboration with the Rescue 1122. He said they
were also planning to arrange for a force of students who would
be responsible for donating blood during emergencies and they
would also arrange for an ambulance in the near future.
He also said that they were doing
everything on a volunteer level.
The initiative of the LUMS EMS
team has been highly appreciated by everyone as they are duly
carrying out the role of being responsible citizens. Daily times |
