WORKSHOP ON CHIP DESIGN HANDEL - C
1st - 2nd, April 2010

Introduction

Expertise in High Level programming is a central requirement for using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) as processing engines and in orderto produce Human resource that are capable of designing reconfigurable hardware (FPGAs) from a high Level languagea two days’ workshop on Chip Design using Handel-C is being organized at Military College of Signals(MCS) by Maj. Dr. Abdul Ghafoor and will be presented by Mr. Irfan Faisal Mir who is an expert on FPGA Based Hardware Design and currently a PhD scholar in Embedded Systems Laboratory, at University of Leicester, UK. The main goal of the course is to increase understanding and knowledge of FPGAs and encourage growth and development in the field.

Description

This course covers High level programming languages role in System-on-Chip designs, Handel-C language with channel communication for highly abstracted designs, Advanced optimization, clocking and pipeline techniques in Handel-C design, Handel-C for rapid system prototyping for FPGAs, Testing and debugging techniques for Handel-C designs using DK suite, Co-design approach with Handel-C and VHDL/Verilog, Co-simulation of Handel-C designs with ModelSim using DK co-simulation manager, Mapping Handel-C designs to an FPGA using Xilinx ISE tool, In-depth tool training – Mentor Graphics DK 5.0 design suite and Real-time verification of Handel-C based hardware on Xilinx Spartan-3 boards.
